Similar to other well-regarded independent schools, Bentley is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) governed by a self selecting Board of Trustees whose duties include the long-term care and fiduciary health of the institution. As such, the Board of Trustees, working closely with the Head of School (the Board's only employee), sets policy and monitors the results of the implementation of those policies as carried out by the Head of School.
At the request of the Bentley Parent Association (BPA), the Board customarily meets with the BPA during the first trimester of the school year to discuss the state of the school including any strategic initiatives that will be undertaken. From time to time the Board of Trustees may decide to issue surveys to elicit information they deem important in their deliberations.
In keeping with the National Association of Independent Schools and the California Association of Independent Schools Principles of Good Practice, trustees do not respond to questions or concerns about school operations as those are in the clear purview of the Head of School and do not respond to anonymous communications. Parents, faculty, and other constituents may communicate any questions, concerns, and suggestions to the Head of School or to those administrators as she may delegate.
