Middle School students in Mr. Palange's Introduction to Robotics class demonstrated their robots at the Robot Showcase in the Bentley Lab, the K-8 Makerspace. Students spent the trimester learning how to build and program robots to accomplish a variety of tasks. At the end of the trimester, students pursued a final project, where they modified their original robot or created a new one. We welcomed K-8 students and faculty to observe and interact with the Middle School students' robot creations.
The following day, students took a field trip to UC Berkeley to tour different labs working on Robotics research. During the tour, students visited the UC Berkeley Automation Lab (Autolab), where they learned about the complexities of grasping objects with robotic hands, the Robotics Learning Lab, where they observed a live example of machine learning with Brett the Robot, and Dr. Claire Tomlin's Lab, where they learned about a project focused on automating decision making for drones that are flying near humans. We would like to thank Dr. Claire Tomlin (Parent of Samuel '26 and Lucy '31) for organizing the one-of-a-kind experience for our Middle School Robotics class.
