Back to Bentley: Young Alumni Reunion and College Panel

We had the privilege of welcoming our young alumni back to Bentley for a mini-reunion and college panel with faculty and students of the Upper School.

As Head of School Arlene Hogan highlighted, Bentley is full of traditions, and this particular alumni event is one of our treasured opportunities to bridge the college experiences between our recent graduates and current Upper School students.

Mr. Nick Calabrese and Ms. Ana Anderson hosted the panel, asking students about the transition to college, favorite courses, and, for upperclassmen, plans for the future. Panelists included Alec McKendell ’18 from Tufts, Annalise Kelloff '18 from Lehigh, Wyn Barnum '17 from Stevens Institute of Technology, Elliot Heywood '17 from George Washington, Sydney Babiak '15 from Yale, and Julia Jung '16 from Wellesley.

Julia ’16 recommends that students attend office hours here at Bentley as practice for approaching professors in college. “It’s important to get to know your professors who can also write letters of recommendation for anything you want to pursue in the future,” Julia says.

Several panelists underscored the benefits of taking introductory courses in areas of interest to get an overview of what students might want to study, which may also lead students into finding something they did not previously consider.

For students concerned about moving away from home, Wyn ’17 and Annalise ’18 reassured them that everyone they meet will be going through the same experience, to not be intimidated, and to be open to meeting others and befriending classmates.
