Applying to college is a rite of passage and is often the first entirely personal decision made in a young person’s life. Bentley’s College Counseling Office aims to guide students such that the experience is an exciting journey of self-discovery, growth, and transformation.
Bentley’s college counselors aim to create an open-minded environment in which students can explore the eternal questions of “Who am I and what do I want?” to identify college choices that represent a good fit for students--academically, socially, and culturally. We want students to find colleges where they will be able to thrive as students, as citizens, and as people. In our work with students, we aim to:
- Demystify an often jargon-filled and anxiety-laden process
- Ensure that students and their parents or guardians have the right tools and understanding to 'own' and navigate this important transitional process
- Help identify a list of schools that 'fit' each student appropriately and will yield a positive choice of college options
We approach this work as a collaboration among students, their families, teachers, and coaches. In their freshman and sophomore years, we encourage our students to begin their exploration, putting their primary focus on exploring their interests and values with the guidance of their teachers, advisors, and peers.
The counseling process begins in earnest during the junior year, with formal one-on-one meetings with college counselors, test preparation, online research of colleges, and college visits. Bentley hosts over 125 college and university representatives throughout the fall, encouraging juniors and seniors to meet with them.
The Bentley College Counseling Office is here to serve as students' primary resource, support, and advocate throughout this exciting process. Our aim is to ensure that each student’s college counseling experience is a triumph, a transformative process that builds an audacious and achievable vision for the future.
