Lower School (K-5)
Bentley School believes that a strong Visual and Performing Arts curriculum is an integral part of a balanced academic program.

In the Lower School, music classes take place twice each week and include instruction in singing, part-harmony, listening, theory, instruments, technology, drumming, and creative movement. Students perform several times a year in the annual Winter and Spring Concerts and assemblies. Students who wish to learn a string instrument can join String Academy as early as 1st grade.

Visual Arts classes also convene two times per week. In addition to a yearly art show, there are rotating exhibits displayed throughout the Hiller Campus. Classes cover a comprehensive visual arts curriculum involving students in a wide range of 2-D and 3-D media. In addition, the arts specialists collaborate and create hands-on activities in conjunction with classroom curricula in literature, social studies and science.

Grades K-2 are also introduced to the fundamentals of dance. These classes allow students to explore movement through music, develop physical skills, channel energy, stimulate imagination, and promote creativity. We explore the elements of dance, body, space, energy and time, through warm-ups and improvisations. Students have the opportunity to create their own dances and perform for their peers.
