Phoenix Sink Vikings

The Bentley Men’s Varsity Basketball Team dominated the Valley Christian Vikings from start to finish in a 78-33 home court victory Saturday evening.  The Phoenix combined a balanced scoring attack, smothering defense and strong bench play in producing their largest victory margin of the season and tying their season’s highest point total.  The lopsided score allowed Coach Lai to provide substantial playing time for all his players.

The Phoenix quickly opened up an 8-0 lead and led 20-10 at the end of the first quarter.  At halftime, the lead had increased to 17 points with the score 37-20.  Strong third quarter play pushed the lead 57-31 at the end of the period.  And Bentley completely dominated the final period as they outscored the Vikings by a 21-2 margin.

Dylan Han led the scoring with 14 points (including 4 three point shots).  Richard Washington added 3 three pointers and finished with 12 points while Ashan Fernando also hit double figures, scoring a season best 10 points with aggressive drives to the hoop.  Corey Goldman chipped in with 9 points, while Dylan DeMarco put up a season best 8 points, a total matched by Josiah Smith.  Rounding out the scoring, Josh Smith and Alex Billings contributed 6 points and Nigel Scott had 5. And  while Will Yi and Nicholas Berry didn’t score, both played extensive minutes and contributed with strong defense and rebounding.

The victory raises The Phoenix’s league record to 4-1 and its overall record to 12-5.  Bentley next goes on the road to play College Prep next Tuesday.
