Exploring Science and History: A 5th Grade Expedition at the Academy of Sciences
As part of this trimester's life sciences curriculum, our 5th grade students had the valuable opportunity to visit the renowned Academy of Sciences.
This field trip was designed to enhance their understanding of various scientific concepts. The itinerary featured a visit to the World's Largest Dinosaur Exhibit, an intriguing space that allowed them to connect with prehistoric life on a grand scale. Students were also treated to an enthralling show: "Expedition Coral Reef" in the planetarium, providing a deep dive into the fascinating world of marine ecosystems.
During their visit, the students tried to apply what they had been learning in class. Their goal was to identify and study arthropods, which they have been exploring in their life sciences curriculum. This hands-on experience allowed them to see these creatures up close and apply their knowledge practically.
In addition to exploring the arthropods, students visited the African Hall. This provided them with a unique opportunity to engage with the subject matter of their social studies curriculum as they observed exhibits related to hominids, enhancing their understanding of human evolution and history.
Overall, this field trip served as a bridge between classroom learning and real-world experiences, deepening the students' appreciation for the natural world and their understanding of historical concepts. It was an enriching and educational experience that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on our class.
