Young Botanists in Search of Seeds

In the 2nd grade Garden class, our young botanists embarked on an outdoor adventure — right out into our school garden — in an exploration of seeds.

2nd graders ventured outside to journey across school grounds and make their way down to the Firestorm Memorial Garden. Amongst the plants, veggies, flowers, and occasional weeds, we searched for various seeds and discussed how each species of seed spreads. During their hike, students collected a variety of specimens, including acorns, dandelion seeds, and even pinecones (which, although not actual seeds, serve as containers for seeds).

In the upcoming week, the students in the Garden class will employ visual aids such as pictures, words, arrows, and numbers to craft scientific illustrations based on their seed collection. We can’t wait to show you their work!
