Upper School French Students Have Been Busy!
French 3 Students Compare Street Art From Their Local Community:
Students were invited to photograph a local mural or wall art that meant a lot to them. In class, they worked on descriptions of the visual aspects and emotional impact of the piece. Then, they were invited to research an equivalent art piece from a francophone community of their choice. Art has this power, just like language learning, to bridge our differences and highlight and enhance our commonalities.
French 4 Honors Study Le Grand Siècle (17th-Century France):
Students have researched a specific point of interest in 17th-century France. Their selected topics ranged from the Regency Era with Marie Di Medici, Diderot, and the publication of the Encyclopedia to the lives and conditions of peasants and laborers, to name a few. Students put together an iMovie-style documentary narrated in French and had a session to listen to 3 samples. These notes were organized into 3 parts: what students already knew, what they learned while watching, and questions that arose. Guess what goes best with 17th-century France documentaries? Popcorn!
