Exploring Identity with "Red: A Crayon's Story"

The 1W class welcomed Elijah's mom, Megan, to their class for a special reading session! Megan read Red: A Crayon's Story by Michael Hall, a heartwarming tale about a blue crayon mistaken for the color red. Through this engaging picture book, they delved into identity, self-acceptance, and embracing differences.

 

To support the discussion's themes, each student designed their own crayon. Using prompts like "things I like," "things I don't like," and "I am feeling," they also reflected on aspects of themselves that might not be immediately visible. This exercise encouraged self-expression and fostered a deeper understanding of each person's complexities beyond what meets the eye.
